The Schweiker House

The Schweiker House was built in Schaumberg, Illinois.

Built in the 1900s, the Schweiker House takes on a neo-Japanese style, with the building being comprised mainly of untreated redwood, as well as raw bricks. One interesting fact about the house is that it never originally had any air conditioning or heating systems, and relied on solar radiative heating, and uses the extensive length of the eaves to keep shadowed and out of direct sunlight during the day, thereby facilitating climate control without the use of electric systems, far ahead of its time for the aspect of environmentally conscious heating systems.
